   have ceased to have the following technical interests under Schedule

   - under the Top-up arrangements relating to the compensation to 
     option-holders for the 1997 special dividend, a technical 
     interest in 72,021 shares held in the BT Employee Trust No.3
     in the name of Ilford Trustees (Jersey) Ltd.  These shares were
     transferred at nil consideration to the respective 2,544 qualifying
     beneficial owners at a value of 1247p per share.
