The Board of The British Land Company PLC greatly regrets to announce the
sudden death yesterday of Shen Adam, F.C.A., a director of the Company.

He joined British Land in 1996, having been Managing Director of Broadgate
Properties Plc which became wholly owned by British Land in that year.  He was
appointed a director of British Land in 1998.

We express our deep sympathy to his wife Barbara, their two sons and all his
family.
