Purchase of Own Securities

3i Smaller Quoted Co's Trust PLC

On 9 January 2002, 3i Smaller Quoted Companies Trust plc purchased 60,000 of its
own Ordinary Shares of 25p each, at a purchase price of £1.805 per share, for 
cancellation. Following the cancellation of these shares the Company's issued 
share capital will amount to 57,503,523 Ordinary Shares of 25p each.
