Wednesday 20th August 2003 at 13.02 under RNS Number 8806O.

The new issued share capital reduces to 47,493,821, not 47,489,821 as previously
stated.  All other details remain unchanged.

British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 20th August 2003 it re-purchased,
for cancellation, 10,000 ordinary shares at 113p per share (representing 0.02%
of the issued ordinary capital).

Settlement and cancellation of the re-purchased 10,000 Ordinary Shares is due on
25th August 2003 when the issued share capital of the Trust will fall to
47,493,821 Ordinary 1p Shares.
