Bellway PLC 12 August 2002 Bellway PLC Bellway Unveils Plans to Build 2000 London Homes Bellway, the local, national housebuilder has unveiled plans to develop 2,000 homes within the catchment area of the M25 motorway. Bellway Homes, one of the country's leading housebuilders will be developing six sites, all strategically placed within convenient travelling distance of the M25 and central London. The programme of work all on brownfield sites is due to commence this August and will run over a three year construction period. The sites at Stepney, Bromley by Bow, High Wycombe, Ruislip, Newbury Park, Hither Green and Wembley provide for a mix of tenure and house types. More than 600 units will be categorised as affordable housing or key worker accommodation. The Stepney development is the first large-scale scheme of its type to receive planning permission for key worker accommodation, and as such is a landmark project that will enhance and integrate with the wider regeneration of Tower Hamlets. The development is being run in partnership with the East Thames Housing Group and a consortium of Social Landlords. In Ruislip at Somerset Place, Bellway are constructing a development totalling 168 properties of mixed tenure, where homes will be available through shared ownership and rented solutions. Priority will be given to council and housing association tenants. Key worker housing will be available on shared ownership basis for teachers working in the Hillingdon area. John Watson, Bellway Chief Executive said, 'There is clearly an urgent demand for suitable accommodation that provides for affordable housing in the capital. These developments complement our strategy of organic growth and build upon our reputation for working in partnership with local authorities and Social Landlords, and will provide family orientated accommodation at affordable prices. The fact that all the sites are located within a short distance of major transport corridors mean that the developments will relieve some of the financial pressures for people commuting and working in London. Once complete these homes will add a significant contribution to the housing stock, whilst supporting Ken Livingstone's London Plan.'
