MAIN BOARD APPOINTMENT AT BALFOUR BEATTY

Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services
group, announces today the appointment of Malcolm Eckersall as a Director of
Balfour Beatty plc. He is Managing Director with responsibility for the
group's Civil and Specialist Engineering and Services business. This business
had 1999 sales of £900 million and includes the group's substantial US
operations, its other international and major projects interests and its
growing road management and maintenance business.
Malcolm Eckersall, who is 54, joined Balfour Beatty in January 2000 from AMEC
where he was a main board Director with responsibility for Civil Engineering,
Building, Design and Management and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
