Appointment of Iain McLaren as Director of the Company

The Board of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Iain McLaren as Director of the Company with effect from 16 January 2009.

Iain McLaren, who is 57, retired from KPMG in 2008 having been a partner for 27 years and was Senior Partner in Scotland from 1999 to 2004.  He is currently a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Cairn Energy Plc. The Chairman of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC, Michael Hathorn, commented:

'I am delighted to welcome Iain to the Board. His extensive and current corporate governance and financial reporting experience will prove invaluable to the Board'.

There is no other information required to be disclosed under section 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules.
