                   NOTIFICATIONS OF MAJOR INTERESTS IN SHARES


On 7 June 2001 Amlin plc ('Amlin') received notification that since 1 June 2001
White Mountains Insurance Group Limited ('White Mountains') is no directly
longer interested in 14,980,861 Amlin ordinary shares, representing 7.2% of
Amlin's issued ordinary shares, but that CGU Insurance Group is now interested
in the same number of shares.

CGU Insurance Group (in the USA) has recently been acquired by White Mountains
and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of White Mountains. Thus the above
transaction in Amlin shares is purely a transfer within the White Mountains
group.
