VOTING RIGHTS AND CAPITAL

In conformity with the Transparency Directive's transitional provision 6, Alkane
Energy PLC notifies the market of the following:

Alkane Energy PLC's capital consists of 91,926,924 ordinary shares with a
nominal value of 0.5p each, with voting rights. Alkane Energy PLC does not hold
any ordinary shares in Treasury.

Therefore, the total number of voting rights in Alkane Energy PLC is 91,926,924.

The figure of 91,926,924 may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the
calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their
interest in, or a change to their interest in, Alkane Energy PLC under the FSA's
Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
