ANNOUNCEMENT ON KEY OPERATING DATA OF JANUARY 2016

 

In January 2016, Air China Limited (the "Company"), and its subsidiaries (the "Group") recorded an increase in combined passenger traffic (measured by revenue passenger kilometers ("RPK")) as compared to the same period last year and to last month, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, passenger capacity (measured by available seat kilometers ("ASK")) increased by 14.0%, while passenger traffic, increased by 18.6%. For domestic routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic increased by 4.0% and 6.8%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. For international routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic increased by 35.5% and 43.7%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. Passenger capacity on regional routes increased by 6.9%, while passenger traffic increased by 21.9% as compared to the same period last year. The overall passenger load factor was 79.5%, recording a year-on-year increase by 3.1 percentage points. The passenger load factor for domestic, international and regional routes increased by 2.1, 4.5 and 9.1 percentage points, respectively.

 

The Company launched a Guiyang-Sanya route (seven flights each week) on 22 January 2016, a Guiyang-Tianjin route (seven flights each week) on 29 January 2016, a Yangzhou-Taipei route (three flights each week) on 25 January 2016 and a Hangzhou-Ibaraki route (two flights each week) on 30 January 2016.

 

In terms of cargo operations, in January 2016, both cargo and mail traffic (measured by revenue freight tonne kilometers ("RFTK")) and volume of cargo and mail uplifted continued to increase on a year-on-year basis, but decreased as compared to last month. Cargo capacity (measured by available freight tonne kilometers ("AFTK")) rose by 10.0% year-on-year in January 2016. Cargo and mail traffic grew by 7.7% and the volume of cargo and mail uplifted increased by 8.4% as compared to the same period last year. The cargo load factor was 52.6% in January 2016, representing a year-on-year decrease of 1.1 percentage points.

 

In January 2016, the Group added five new aircraft, including two B737-800, two A320 and one business jet, and retired one A340. As at the end of January 2016, the Group operated a fleet of 594 aircraft.
