                   NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR INTERESTS IN SHARES



Standard Life European Private Equity Trust PLC ('the Company')



Following the merger of The Alliance Trust PLC and The Second Alliance Trust
PLC, which was approved by shareholders of both companies on 10 May 2006 and
which was expected to become effective on 21 June 2006, The Second Alliance
Trust PLC gave an unconditional undertaking on 16 June 2006 to transfer its
beneficial interest in the Company's shares to The Alliance Trust after the
effective date of the merger.  Accordingly the Company received notification on
22 June 2006 of the following interest in the ordinary share capital:
