Purchase of own shares

Govett Asian Recovery Trust PLC announces that it has purchased for cancellation
200,000 ordinary shares at 95 pence per share on 16 December 2002. This brings
the total ordinary shares purchased to date to 1,370,000. The number of shares
outstanding is now 35,952,077.
