The issuer has made the following amendment to the Purchase of Own Securities
announcement released on 21 September 2001 at 15:43 under RNS No 4395K.

The number of warrants bought for cancellation should read 294,173 and not 
294,125 as previously stated.  The number of warrants in issue should read 
2,620,598 and not 2,620,646 as previously stated.

All other details remain unchanged.

REPURCHASE OF WARRANTS
AMENDED ANNOUNCEMENT

On 21 September 2001 British Assets Trust plc bought 294,173 of its warrants
for cancellation at a price of 11.5p each.  There are 2,620,598 warrants in
issue following this repurchase.
