REPURCHASE OF EQUITIES INDEX UNSECURED LOAN STOCK

On 26 June 2001 British Assets Trust plc bought 85,000 of its own Equities
Index Unsecured Loan Stock for cancellation at a price of 269p each.  There
are 6,001,703 units in issue following this repurchase.

Since their issue in April  1989, the Company has repurchased 95.7% of its
loan stock units for cancellation.
