                            Purchase of Own Shares                             

Microgen plc announces that on 14 October 2002 it purchased for cancellation an
additional 1,000,000 ordinary shares of 5p each at a price of 25 pence per
share. In total, 3,000,000 ordinary shares were purchased for cancellation on
14 October 2002.
