In conformity with the Transparency Directive's transitional provision 6, we
would like to notify the market of the following:

Alliance Trust PLC's capital consists of 671,909,760 ordinary shares of 2.5p
each with voting rights. Alliance Trust PLC holds no ordinary shares in
Treasury.

Therefore, the number of voting rights in Alliance Trust PLC is 671,909,760.

The above figure may be used by shareholder as the denominator for the
calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their
interest in, or a change to their interest in, Alliance Trust PLC under the
Financial Services Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
