Alliance Trust PLC announces that Janet Pope, an executive director and Chief
Executive of its subsidiary Alliance Trust Savings, has resigned as a director
of the company with immediate effect.

Lesley Knox, Chairman of Alliance Trust, said "Janet has played an important
role in our financial services business for the past sixteen months as
executive Director and Chief Executive of Alliance trust Savings. We thank
