Disclosure of directors interests in shares

The Alliance Trust PLC

The Alliance Trust PLC (the Company) has on 21 April 2006 received notification
from Abacus Corporate Trustee Limited as Trustee of The Alliance Trust PLC
Employee Benefit Trust (the Trust) (a discretionary trust of which all
employees of The Alliance Trust PLC and its subsidiaries are beneficiaries),
that on 21 April 2006 6,770 ordinary 25p shares in the capital of the Company
were purchased by Abacus Corporate Trustee Limited on behalf of employees of
the Company.

Of the shares referred to above the following were purchased on behalf of
executive directors (the Directors) of the Company as detailed below, the said
shares forming part of the property of the Trust:-

Abacus Corporate Trustee Limited also acquired, on behalf of the Company, on 21
April 2006 8,441 ordinary 25p shares in the Company.

The Trust now holds a total of 22,698 shares representing 0.045% of the
Companys issued share capital.

Each of the Directors is a member of the class of discretionary beneficiaries
of the Trust and is consequently deemed to have an interest in all the shares
held in the Trust.
