Investment in Expansion of Scottish Fertiliser Production Capacity
Wynnstay Group plc (AIM: WYN), a leading integrated partner to UK agriculture, is pleased to announce a significant expansion of its Glasson Fertilisers blending operations at Montrose, Scotland. This latest investment will significantly increase the Group's fertiliser blending capacity, improve operational efficiency and create one of the largest fertiliser blending plants in Europe on completion. This state-of-the-art modern manufacturing platform will support both the continued growth of Glasson Fertilisers, as well as the Group's broader expansion plans in Scotland.
As part of the expansion, the Group has entered into a long-term lease for a substantially larger production facility at Barrack Road, Montrose and has placed the principal equipment contract for a new high-capacity fertiliser blending plant. In parallel, Wynnstay has agreed the disposal of its existing Cobden Street site, the funds of which will be used to partly fund the new investment.
The total project investment, including the new blending facility, associated infrastructure and the additional working capital required to support the expanded operation, is expected to generate a return on net assets in line with the Group's stated target of not less than 10%.
The new facility is expected to double Glasson Fertilisers' blending capacity at Montrose, providing the manufacturing capability to better serve existing customer demand whilst creating the platform to support future organic growth across the Scottish market.
To ensure continuity of customer service, production will continue from the existing Cobden Street facility whilst the new blending plant is installed and commissioned. Both sites are expected to operate in parallel during the transition period, with the Barrack Road facility expected to be fully commissioned and in production during the first half of FY2027, ahead of the peak spring fertiliser season.
The investment builds on the successful expansion of the Group's Avonmouth fertiliser operation and represents a further example of Wynnstay investing in manufacturing capacity to support long-term growth ambitions while improving operational efficiency.
The project forms part of Strategy Genesis, Wynnstay's growth strategy, focused on investing in the Group's strongest opportunities to grow the business while improving returns from its manufacturing asset base through increased capacity, higher asset utilisation and disciplined capital allocation.
Alk Brand, Chief Executive Officer of Wynnstay Group plc, commented:
"This investment is another important milestone in the delivery of Strategy Genesis and demonstrates our continued confidence in the long-term growth opportunities for Glasson Fertilisers. The new Montrose facility will double our blending capacity in Scotland, provide the infrastructure to support future growth, improve customer service and enhance our operational efficiency.
"Following the successful expansion of our Avonmouth fertiliser operation, this investment further strengthens our manufacturing network and reflects our disciplined approach to investing capital in projects that generate attractive long-term returns. We are looking forward to bringing the new facility into operation ahead of the 2027 spring season and creating a modern platform from which to continue growing our Scottish fertiliser business. Additionally, this investment provides us with the springboard for the Group's broader expansion ambitions in Scotland."
