Monthly commentary

 

PERFORMANCE

UIL's net asset value ("NAV") total return increased by 10.8% in August, compared with an increase of 0.7% for the FTSE All Share Total Return Index.

 

During the month, the S&P 500 Index increased by 2.6%, the ASX 200 Index was up by 1.1%, and the Euro Stoxx Index increased by 1.0%. The FTSE 100 Index declined by 0.4%.

 

Commodity markets were generally positive during the month, with the exception of nickel, which declined by 2.3%. The gold price increased by 9.7%, closing the month at USD 4,437, while copper and Brent crude oil rose by 2.0% and 0.4%, respectively.

 

Sterling strengthened against the US Dollar, appreciating by 0.9% during the month. However, it weakened against Australian Dollar by 1.4%, the Canadian Dollar by 0.2% and the New Zealand Dollar by 0.1%.

 

PORTFOLIO UPDATE

UIL's top ten holdings are disclosed on a look through basis, taking into account the underlying

investments of Zeta Resources Limited. No changes were made to the constituents of the top ten holdings during the month.

 

Share price performance was mixed during the month. Roxmore Resources was the strongest performer, with its share price increasing by 37.3%, followed by Resimac Group and Horizon Gold, which rose by 20.5% and 20.2%, respectively. 

 

In contrast, Utilico Emerging Markets saw its share price decline by 2.8%, while MoneyMe declined by 10.3% during the month.

 

ORDINARY SHARES

UIL's ordinary share price ended the month at 204.00p, an increase of 4.1%. The discount to NAV widened from 23.4% to 28.0% as at 31 August 2026.

 

ZDP SHARES

The 2026 ZDP share price increased by 0.3% ending the month at 150.50p and the 2028 ZDP share price was up by 1.1% at 133.50p.

 

UIL purchased in the market 0.9m 2026 ZDP shares issued by its subsidiary, UIL Finance, at an average price of 1.51p per 2026 ZDP share. Following these purchases, UIL holds 5.8m 2026 ZDP shares as at 31 August 2026.

 

Following the month end, UIL Finance announced the issue of 5.0m new 2028 ZDPs to UIL.  UIL intends to make the shares available for sale in response to market demand.
