Monthly commentary

 

 

PERFORMANCE

UIL's net asset value ("NAV") total return declined by 0.6% during the month of July whilst the FTSE All Share total return Index was up by 3.7%.

 

During the month, the S&P 500 Index declined 0.1% whilst the Euro Stoxx Index advanced by 0.5%. The ASX 200 Index rose by 2.3% and the FTSE 100 Index increased by 3.5% in July.

 

Commodity markets were mainly positive for July, the oil price increased by 23.6%. Nickel was up by 6.2% and copper rose by 4.4% during the month. The gold price was up by 1.0%, closing the month at USD 4,046.15. 

 

In July, Sterling strengthened against the US Dollar by 1.4% while the Australian Dollar remained flat. The Euro and the Canadian Dollar appreciated 0.7% and 0.3% respectively. However, Sterling weakened against the New Zealand Dollar by 1.8%.

 

PORTFOLIO UPDATE

UIL's top ten holdings are disclosed on a look through basis, taking into account the underlying

investments of Zeta Resources Limited. During the month, there were no changes to the constituents of the top ten holdings.

 

Share price performance was mixed during the month with Horizon Gold's share price declining by 6.0% and Resimac Group's share price fell by 2.5%. Utilico Emerging Markets' share price was unchanged in July.

 

MoneyMe's share price was up by 2.6% in July. Roxmore Resources' share price decreased by 7.5% and Alliance Nickel's share price was up by 35.0% during the month.

 

ORDINARY SHARES

UIL's ordinary share price ended the month at 196.00p, a decrease of 3.9%. The discount to NAV widened from 20.8% to 23.4% as at 31 July 2026.

 

UIL bought back 36,700 ordinary shares at an average price of 191.59p in the month.

 

 

ZDP SHARES

The 2026 ZDP share price increased by 0.3% ending the month at 150.00p and the 2028 ZDP share price was up by 0.4% at 132.00p.

 

UIL purchased in the market 1.4m 2026 ZDP shares issued by its subsidiary, UIL Finance, at an average price of 149.92p per 2026 ZDP share. Following these purchases, UIL holds 4.8m 2026 ZDP shares as at 31 July 2026.

 

The Company sold in the market the remaining 0.1m 2028 ZDP shares held by UIL, issued by its subsidiary, UIL Finance, at a price of 131.00p per 2028 ZDP share.
