Award of major APC-backed project with Cummins Inc to deliver smart motor

Transense Technologies plc (AIM: TRT), the developer of specialist sensing technologies, is pleased to announce that it has secured a significant new contract as part of 'DriveSense', a project supported through the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) R&D programme led by global vehicle powertrain supplier Cummins Inc, to develop next-generation smart electric drive systems for heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles.

The project, which is scheduled to complete in December  2026, has a total value of £2.99 million and is part-funded by the UK Government through the DRIVE35 Innovation Fund. Transense's element of the project is valued at approximately £0.6 million.

DriveSense will combine Cummins' expertise in high-performance electric drive systems with Transense's SAWsense technology, which uses Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) sensors to provide real-time torque and temperature data from within electric motors. The project aims to develop and demonstrate a new generation of electric motors and power electronics using advanced sensing and control to deliver higher power density, improved efficiency and enhanced durability.

By integrating real-time embedded sensing with new motor and inverter technologies, DriveSense is expected to support the development of electric drive solutions that are more efficient, more reliable and capable of being manufactured at scale in the UK.

Ryan Maughan, Managing Director of Transense Technologies plc, commented: "We are pleased to be supporting Cummins on a programme that advances the capability of electric propulsion systems. Embedding real-time sensing into next-generation electric drives provides manufacturers with critical data to enhance performance and reliability. This project further underlines the important role of UK-based innovation in the transition to advanced electric propulsion."

Ankit Patel, Director of Research and Technology at Cummins Inc, said: "DriveSense represents a key step in Cummins' UK-engineered zero-emission propulsion development. In partnership with Transense, we are embedding advanced sensing within electrified drivetrains to enhance efficiency, durability and performance. Supported by the APC and Innovate UK, this collaboration accelerates the commercialisation of intelligent, sustainable propulsion and reinforces the UK's leadership in clean mobility."

Notes to Editors:

Transense is headquartered in Oxfordshire, UK and its shares are traded on AIM, a market operated by the London Stock Exchange (AIM: TRT). The Company develops and supplies advanced sensor technology and measurement solutions used by some of the world's leading companies to improve performance, efficiency, and safety in demanding, mission critical applications. Transense currently operates through two active business segments:

SAWsense - designs, supplies and licences advanced sensor solutions based on proven, patent protected Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology to world leading companies in aerospace, automotive, and industrial machinery (including robotics), enabling improved efficiency and performance of their products. Key customers include GE Aerospace, Airbus, Motion Applied (formerly McLaren Applied), and several other confidential OEM's and Tier One automotive, aerospace and industrial machinery suppliers.

Translogik - develops smart, connected commercial vehicle tyre inspection equipment to many of the world's leading tyre suppliers, fleet operators and service centres. Enabling accurate measurement and digital capture of safety-critical tyre condition data, used to reduce operating costs, improve safety and provide audit records for regulatory compliance. Key customers include Bridgestone, Goodyear, Continental and Prometeon (Pirelli), leading independent providers of vehicle fleet maintenance management software, and a growing list of international territory distribution partners.

In addition, Transense earns residual royalty income from Bridgestone iTrack - a tyre monitoring system for off-highway vehicles that was developed by Translogik. The associated sales, support and development infrastructure were sold to Bridgestone Corporation, the world's largest tyre producer, in June 2020, and the intellectual property was licensed exclusively to Bridgestone under a ten-year deal expiring in 2030.
