Statement regarding draft Retail Code of Practice

Summary by AI BETAClose X

Trainline plc has noted the Office of Rail and Road's draft Retail Code of Practice, which establishes a regulatory framework for Great British Railways' interactions with market participants, confirming fair access to fares, products, systems, and data. While acknowledging the positive foundation for a competitive market, Trainline believes the proposed Code requires further strengthening to ensure GBR does not exclude competitors or abuse its position, and will actively engage in the consultation process. A more detailed update on the regulatory landscape and its implications will be provided with the H1 FY2027 results on November 4th.

Statement regarding the Office of Rail and Road’s draft Retail Code of Practice

Trainline Group plc ("Trainline" or the "Company"), the independent rail and coach travel platform, notes the publication today by the Office of Rail and Road ("ORR") of its draft Retail Code of Practice (the "Code") for consultation. The draft Code can be found here, alongside associated policy frameworks which can be found here.

Although still in draft, the publication is an important step forward for UK rail retail. For the first time, there will be a regulatory framework governing how Great British Railways (“GBR”) interacts with all retail market participants. The draft confirms fair, transparent, non-discriminatory access to fares, products, systems and data, which is a positive foundation for a fair, open and competitive retail market.

The proposed framework in relation to funding of GBR acknowledges GBR will need to act in a way which does not exclude competitors, distort the online retail market or abuse its position. However, Trainline believes that the proposed Code and frameworks require further strengthening to deliver fully on this commitment. Trainline will continue to engage actively in the consultation process and maintains an assertive stance.

Trainline will provide a fuller update on the regulatory landscape and its implications alongside its H1 FY2027 results on 4 November.
