Commercial Implementation Commences Following Kenya Approval for 100% Biodegradable Garbage Liners

Symphony Environmental Technologies plc (AIM: SYM), the specialist in additives and technologies that enhance the environmental performance and functionality of plastics, is pleased to announce that its exclusive distributor in Kenya, Eco‑Essentials Limited, has been granted an official licence by the Kenyan National Environment Management Authority ("NEMA").

The licence authorises Eco‑Essentials Limited to import plastic packaging materials for the purpose of retailing 100% biodegradable garbage liners for garbage collection in Kenya.

The licence, issued under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (Cap 387), permits the importation of plastic film and flat bags specifically for this application and is valid for a period of one year from 13 January 2026.

Although the licence was granted on 13 January 2026, the Company and its distributor considered it appropriate to defer public announcement until the relevant local implementation arrangements, commercial programmes and associated approvals had been finalised. The Company has now been advised that these activities have progressed sufficiently to support a commercial launch into the Kenyan market.

This approval follows several years of engagement and technical interaction with the Kenyan authorities. Symphony believes this reflects growing recognition by regulators of the importance of technologies which enable plastics to biodegrade in the open environment, helping to mitigate plastic pollution where conventional waste collection systems may be limited.

The Company has been advised that Eco‑Essentials Limited has initiated the procurement of products incorporating Symphony's d2w technology, with a view to supplying and distributing these products within the Kenyan market.

Kenya represents a significant and developing market for waste management solutions. Based on available public data relating to population size, urbanisation, and municipal waste generation, the Company believes that the potential market for garbage collection liners in Kenya is substantial. Symphony further believes that this approval may serve as a reference point for neighbouring countries in Africa that face similar environmental challenges, and the

Information on Kenya:  Kenya generates approximately 22,000 tonnes of waste per day (equivalent to around 8 million tonnes annually), of which approximately 20% is plastic. This represents an estimated plastic waste stream of over 1.5 million tonnes per annum. Despite regulatory efforts, only around 27% of plastic waste is collected and less than 10% is recycled, with the majority being mismanaged or disposed of in the open environment. The Company believes this highlights a substantial and growing requirement for environmentally responsible waste collection solutions, including biodegradable garbage liners.
