SEALAND INVESTS IN WANEL GROUP
TO EXPAND ITS DIGITAL FINANCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE CAPABILITIES
Sealand Capital Galaxy Limited ("Sealand" or the "Company") (LSE: SCGL) announces that it has made an investment for a minority stake in Wanel Capital Limited ("Wanel" or "Wanel Group"), a regulated Web3 digital financial infrastructure business with operations in Hong Kong and Europe.
Alongside other investors, Sealand has acquired an approximately 2.0% minority interest in Wanel's seed round of fundraising for a cash consideration of £450k. The investment supports Sealand's strategy of expanding its presence in regulated digital financial infrastructure, including digital payments, stablecoin technologies and cross-border payment solutions, while establishing a platform for future commercial collaboration between the two companies.
Wanel is building a regulated digital financial infrastructure platform designed to support the next generation of digital banking and payments. Its business combines digital payment infrastructure, foreign exchange, cross-border settlement, digital asset custody and treasury services, together with the development of stablecoin-enabled financial products for businesses and institutional customers. Operating through regulated entities in Hong Kong and Europe, Wanel is focused on delivering compliant, technology-led financial solutions for an increasingly digital global economy.
Investment Rationale
The investment expands Sealand's exposure to one of the fastest-growing areas of financial technology, where digital payments, stablecoins, artificial intelligence and regulated financial infrastructure are increasingly converging.
Management believes the continued adoption of digital payment infrastructure, tokenised financial assets and cross-border settlement technologies will create significant long-term opportunities as businesses and financial institutions increasingly seek faster, more efficient and more transparent methods of transferring value globally.
The investment complements Sealand's existing activities across artificial intelligence, SaaS, computing infrastructure and energy-related technologies, while providing exposure to a business operating within established regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
Strengthening Sealand's European Presence
Wanel's operations in Switzerland provide Sealand with a presence in one of Europe's leading centres for regulated digital financial services and digital asset innovation. As digital payments, stablecoin infrastructure and tokenised financial assets continue to evolve, the investment provides Sealand with exposure to a well-established regulatory environment supporting the development of next-generation financial infrastructure.
This complements Sealand's broader investment strategy and positions the Company to participate in the continued evolution of regulated digital financial markets.
Alongside its investment, Sealand and Wanel intend to explore a number of opportunities for commercial collaboration across Europe and Asia.
The companies expect to identify opportunities to combine their respective expertise in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and financial technologies to support the development of innovative enterprise solutions and expand regulated digital financial services into additional international markets over time.
AI and Digital Financial Infrastructure
Sealand believes artificial intelligence will become an increasingly important component of future digital financial infrastructure.
Applications including intelligent payment processing, compliance automation, fraud detection, risk management and customer onboarding are expected to become increasingly AI-driven. By combining Sealand's expertise in artificial intelligence with Wanel's experience in regulated digital financial infrastructure, the companies intend to explore opportunities to develop next-generation financial technology solutions incorporating AI, trusted data and digital payment capabilities.
Daniel Cao, Chief Executive Officer of Sealand Capital Galaxy Limited, commented:
"Our investment in Wanel expands Sealand's exposure to one of the most dynamic areas of financial technology. Wanel has built a compelling platform spanning digital payments, stablecoin infrastructure and regulated financial services, and we look forward to supporting the next stage of its development.
"We also see considerable opportunities at the convergence of artificial intelligence and digital financial infrastructure. As financial services continue to digitise, we believe AI, trusted data and regulated payment infrastructure will become increasingly interconnected. Together with Wanel, we look forward to exploring opportunities to develop innovative technology solutions that create long-term value for both businesses."
