New investment in a clinical AI dental diagnostics business

Mindflair plc, the AIM-quoted company focused on investing in Artificial Intelligence ("AI") related technology, is pleased to note that Sure Valley Ventures' second fund ("SVV2"), in which Mindflair holds an interest, has led a £1.7 million pre-seed investment round into a clinical AI dental diagnostics business, BeCertain.

The round is also supported by Innovate UK's Investor Partnership Growth Catalyst programme and will fund further product development and commercialisation.

BeCertain is developing an AI software assistant to support dentists in interpreting 2D intraoral X-rays. The platform is intended to improve diagnostic reliability and operational efficiency while retaining clinician oversight and protecting patient data.

Around 20 million dental X-rays are taken in the UK each year, but interpretation can vary between clinicians. BeCertain's proprietary uncertainty-aware AI is designed to identify common conditions, including tooth decay, bone loss, infections and restoration defects, and provide calibrated confidence levels to help clinicians assess its output, particularly in complex or unclear cases.

The technology was developed through research led by Dr Yunpeng Li, Reader in AI & Digital Oral Health at King's College London, and Professor Owen Addison, Professor of Oral Rehabilitation and an Honorary NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. Its initial development was supported by a £1.75 million NIHR i4i Product Development Award.

Nicholas Lee, Director of Mindflair plc, commented:

"BeCertain is applying specialist AI to a clear clinical need, combining machine learning and dental expertise to support more consistent diagnosis while retaining clinician oversight. The funding will support the next stage of product development and commercialisation."
