Mt Winter EPA 155 Setting/Seismic

Summary by AI BETAClose X

Georgina Energy PLC is expediting the development program for its Mt Winter subsalt helium, hydrogen, and hydrocarbons prospect in Australia, with 2U Prospective Recoverable Resources estimated at 234 BCF helium, 214 BCF hydrogen, and 1.7 TCF natural gas. The company will conduct an abbreviated seismic survey of approximately 190-line km in early 2027, followed by prospect re-entry drilling by mid-2027. Discussions are ongoing with drilling contractors and Harlequin Energy regarding funding for the pre-drill seismic survey.

Mt Winter EPA 155 Setting/Seismic

Georgina Energy Plc, (LSE: GEX.L), a helium, hydrogen and natural gas exploration and development company with strategic permits in Australia, provides the following update on the Mt Winter subsalt helium, hydrogen and hydrocarbons prospect in onshore Australia.

The Georgina’s technical and operations team along with Aztech will conduct an onsite inspection, including the layout of the proposed seismic program and drill site,  from 18-23 October, accessed via the Mereenie field oil and gas field.

Highlights

  • The Company will be expediting the prospect re-entry and development program for the highly prospective Mt Winter project with, inter alia, 2U Prospective Recoverable Resources at 2U/P50 of 234 BCF helium, 214 BCF hydrogen and 1.7 TCF natural gas.
  • This project will kick off with an abbreviated new seismic survey of c.190-line km in order to better tie down the stratigraphy, formation tops and better define target zones as existing seismic was most recently shot in 1981.
  • Modern seismic will also better define Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators (DHIs) and accumulations of hydrogen, helium and hydrocarbon gas indicators.
  • The seismic is planned to be acquired early in 2027 before prospect re-entry drilling to commence by mid 2027.
  • Ongoing discussions with drilling contractors including Ensign Energy and other drilling companies as we progress with the tender process formally commencing in early 2027.
  • The Company is currently in discussion with Harlequin Energy on funding the pre-drill Seismic and will be subject to formal agreements.

Anthony Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer of Georgina Energy, commented:

“We look forward to drilling the Mt Winter prospect in 2027, following additional confirmatory seismic, which coupled with the Hussar prospect re-entry well has game changing, company-making potential.”

Mt Winter and Amadeus Basin Setting

The Amadeus Basin is a vast sedimentary basin of over 170,000 km2 and a total thickness to basement of up to 14,000m. It is relatively sparsely explored with an average drilling density of only one well per 5,200 km2 or 0.0002 wells per km2 yet significant discoveries have been made:

  • The Palm Valley Gas Field, with initial reserves of 230 BCFG was discovered in 1965 and still in production.
  • The Mereenie Oil and Gas Field, with initial reserves of 18 million barrels of oil and condensate and gas reserves of 333 billion cubic feet, was discovered in 1963 and is still in production 63 years later-ulltimate cumulative recoveries have been estimated at 34 million barrels of liquids and 593 billion cubic feet of gas.
  • The Dingo Gas Field, with remaining reserves of 19 billion cubic feet, was discovered in 1985 and remains in production.
  • The Surprise Oilfield, with reported remaining reserves of c. 1 million barrels of oil, was discovered in 2011.
  • The undrilled Surprise East and Mamlambo Prospects are reported by Central Petroleum Limited to hold 18 million barrels of oil at mean prospective resource level.
  • The Mt Kitty well drilled in 2014, is not in production but has reported 2C Contingent Resources of 4.3 billion cubic feet of helium, 5.3 billion cubic feet of hydrogen and 9.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas but notably up to over 9% helium, placing it in the top 1% of discovered helium concentrations versus the generally accepted 0.5% lower level generally required for commercial extraction.
  • The Magee well, drilled in 2019, was reported by the operator, Central Petroleum, as encountering cuttings gas concentrations above the main Heavitree target zone as being similar to those tested at Mt Kitty. This well is planned to be re-drilled by the operator to evaluate the main target zone.
  • The Magee well, drilled in 1992, tested a gas flow to surface at up to 6% helium did not go into production due to the small size of the discovery.

Mt Winter Specifics

The Mt Winter Prospect at SPE PRMS 2U level has been independently verified to have an interpreted main helium target zone thickness of combined primary porosity and fractured porosity reservoir potential in the Heavitree Formation of 360m and an additional 600m potential in fractured basement. This represents a total of 960m of combined primary and fracture reservoir potential. (IGR Petkovski and Alamiyo 9th July, 2025).

With a prospect area at 2U level of 4,942 acres or 20 km2 this translates into highly significant 2U Prospective (Recoverable) Resources of 234 BCF helium, 214 BCF hydrogen and 1.7 TCF gas. Such a prospect rivals the biggest and best in known discoveries or Prospective Resources in the world.

Notes to Editors

Georgina Energy aims to become a leading player in the global energy market and is focused on establishing itself among the top producers of helium and hydrogen worldwide. With a strategic approach and leveraging the experienced management team's expertise, Georgina Energy aims to capitalize on opportunities in these critical energy sectors.

Georgina Energy has two principal onshore interests held through its wholly owned Australian subsidiary, Westmarket O&G.  The first, the Hussar Prospect is located in the Officer Basin in Western Australia and Westmarket O&G holds a 100% working interest in the exploration permit.  The second, the EPA155 Mt Winter Prospect, is located in the Amadeus Basin in the Northern Territory, subject to completion of the Sale Agreement Georgina Energy will hold a 100% working interest.

With the resource potential of the EP513 Hussar and the EPA155 Mt Winter projects in line with market demand trends, Georgina Energy is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing gap between supply and demand for hydrogen, helium and gaseous hydrocarbons in Australia and globally.
