                            Purchase of own shares


EMH announces that on 9 August 2004 it purchased, for cancellation under an
existing authority granted by shareholders, 450,000 ordinary shares of 40p each
in the market at a price of 195p each, representing approximately 0.84% of its
issued share capital.  Following this, there remain 53,153,710 ordinary shares
in issue.
