Guildford, UK and Plymouth Meeting, USA - 11 August 2026 - CelLBxHealth plc (AIM: CLBX), a CTC intelligence company specialising in innovative circulating tumour cell (CTC) solutions for use in research, drug development and clinical oncology, announces the publication of a peer-reviewed study in JCO Precision Oncology demonstrating the diagnostic and monitoring potential of Parsortix®-enriched CTCs in patients with glioblastoma ("GBM"), the most common aggressive malignant primary brain tumour in adults.

 

Key study findings

Researchers at Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza and Ospedali Riuniti di Livorno USL Toscana Nord Ovest, Italy, used the Parsortix® Platform to enrich CTCs from blood samples taken from 27 patients with GBM, alongside healthy controls and non-GBM brain lesion cases. Key findings include:

 

·    First proposed numerical CTC threshold for GBM, where >4 CTCs per 5 mL of blood helped distinguish patients with primary GBM from healthy controls, with 80% sensitivity and 77.3% specificity

·    Parsortix-enriched CTCs contained tumour-related mutations and chromosomal changes also seen in matched tumour tissue, indicating that the captured cells reflected the patient's tumour biology

·    Single-cell analysis showed that GBM CTCs were highly variable, reflecting known disease complexity

·    Radionecrosis and lymphoma samples yielded no detectable CTCs, supporting the use of CTC enumeration in differentiating tumour recurrence from treatment-related change

 

Although GBM rarely spreads outside the brain, this study adds to growing evidence that tumour-derived cells can be detected in the blood, opening the potential for minimally invasive molecular insight into GBM biology.

 

In-house GBM research study

At the annual Society for Neuro-Oncology meeting, held on 19-23 November in Hawaii, USA, the Company presented a poster entitled 'Unlocking the potential of liquid biopsy in glioblastoma: an extensive evaluation of circulating biomarkers.' CelLBxHealth's internal GBM research generated findings aligned with this independent study, supporting the potential of Parsortix®-enriched CTCs to provide tumour-related genomic information in a cancer where tissue biopsy is difficult and conventional monitoring approaches are limited.

The proposed CTC threshold and genomic overlap with matched tumour tissue support further investigation of CTCs as a complementary liquid biopsy approach in this difficult-to-sample disease."
