Arkadian notes US-Greenland defence and security agreement

and potential infrastructure benefits for Motzfeldt

Arkadian Strategic Metals Plc (AIM: AKN), the strategic metals and gold-focused exploration and development company, notes the agreement signed in New York yesterday, 22 September 2026, between the United States, Denmark and Greenland to strengthen defence and security cooperation in Greenland and the wider Arctic and North Atlantic region.

Highlights

•   Agreement strengthens defence and security cooperation in Greenland and the wider Arctic and North Atlantic, including proposed US defence areas at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig.

•   Narsarsuaq is close to Arkadian's 51%-owned Motzfeldt Critical Metals Project and already supports the Company's field operations.

•   Future investment in regional transport and logistics could support Motzfeldt's development, subject to the scope of investment and arrangements for civilian and commercial access.

•   Local consultation, residents' livelihoods and environmental protection remain important considerations; technical arrangements and the procedures required for entry into force are still to be completed.

Defence and Security Agreement

The agreement updates the existing defence framework, providing for expanded US activities at Pituffik Space Base and additional defence areas at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig. It also addresses military access, investment screening in sensitive sectors and opportunities for Greenlandic businesses to participate in defence-related contracts, while reaffirming the Kingdom of Denmark's sovereignty and Greenlanders' right to self-determination.

At the signing ceremony attended by US President Donald J. Trump, the Greenlandic Premier Jens-Frederik Nielsen and the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (Figure 1), Greenland's Premier emphasised Greenlanders' rights and livelihoods, shared security responsibilities, mutual respect and NATO's Arctic role. He said the agreement "takes into account the people of Greenland, our rights, our livelihoods".

Proposed Narsarsuaq Defence Area

Of particular relevance to Arkadian is the proposed defence area at Narsarsuaq, close to the Company's Motzfeldt Critical Metals Project (Figure 2). Arkadian recognises the value of infrastructure that serves local needs alongside commercial activity. The Company respects Greenland's decision-making processes and considers meaningful consultation with local residents and the municipality essential to planning Narsarsuaq's future, with due consideration for existing livelihoods and protection of the environment.

The technical arrangements for the additional defence areas remain to be agreed between the parties. Entry into force requires notification to the United States that Denmark and Greenland have completed the necessary parliamentary procedures.

Narsarsuaq was established as a US military base in 1941 and used in that capacity until 1958. It subsequently served for many decades as an international airport, a role it fulfilled until earlier this year.

Narsarsuaq already plays a practical role in Arkadian's field operations. As reported on 2 September 2026, bulk samples collected from the Aries mineral resource area at Motzfeldt this year were transported by helicopter to Narsarsuaq for onward shipment for further test work. Arkadian's field teams were based out of Narsarsuaq for the duration of the field programme.

Implications for the Motzfeldt Project

Future investment at Narsarsuaq could support regional transport and logistics infrastructure relevant to Motzfeldt and other commercial activities. Any benefit to the Project would depend on the scope of investment and the arrangements for commercial access.

Arkadian holds a 51% interest in Motzfeldt, a multi-element project with the potential to supply rare earth elements, niobium, tantalum and zirconium for clean energy, advanced technology and defence applications. The Motzfeldt Project is one of only five critical raw material ("CRM") projects in Greenland identified by GEUS (the Danish & Greenlandic Geological Survey) as a "very large deposit".

The Company's recently completed 2026 field programme at Motzfeldt included bulk sampling, geological targeting and environmental baseline studies to support continuing technical assessment and development planning. A review of infrastructure requirements for a future mining operation at Motzfeldt is ongoing.

George Frangeskides, Executive Chairman, commented:

"We welcome the signing of an agreement between Greenland, Denmark and the United States to strengthen defence and security cooperation in Greenland and the wider Arctic and North Atlantic region. We hope this provides a more stable basis for cooperation and greater certainty for Greenland and its people.

"Having invested in Greenland's mining sector consistently over the past decade, initially through the Amitsoq and TBS projects and now at Motzfeldt, we have a longstanding interest in the country and its prosperity. We also take a keen interest in the announcement that Narsarsuaq has been earmarked as an additional US defence area, given Narsarsuaq's existing role in our operations. Infrastructure investment that improves transport and logistics for civilian and commercial users has the potential to support the future development of Motzfeldt and business activity across the region.

"At the same time, local residents and the municipality should have meaningful input as plans develop, with due consideration for existing livelihoods and the environment. These same considerations will also continue to guide development at Motzfeldt, where our focus will remain on ensuring a disciplined approach to development supported by technical progress, environmental and social impact assessment, and ongoing engagement with Greenlandic stakeholders."
