                            WPP GROUP PLC ('WPP')



Following the announcement on October 19th 2001 of Michael J Dolan's
operational appointment as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Young &
Rubicam Advertising, WPP confirms that Mr Dolan has stepped down from the
board of WPP.
