WPP GROUP PLC ('the Company')

WPP Group plc has been informed of the following share transaction made by Mr
Paul Richardson, Group Finance Director.

Yesterday Mr Richardson completed a purchase of 19,567 shares at an average
price of £8.855 per share.

This transaction was carried out in connection with Mr Richardson's
participation in the Company's Leadership Equity Acquisition Plan (LEAP).

Mr Richardson's resultant beneficial holding is 350,743 shares, representing
.032% of the issued ordinary share capital of the Company.
