WPP Group plc was informed today that John Quelch, a non-executive director of
the Company, has purchased 2,000 ordinary shares of 10p each in WPP Group plc
at a price of £9.01 per share on 24 October 2000.

At today's date Mr Quelch owns 12,000 Ordinary Shares (approximately .001% of
the Ordinary Share Capital of the Company).
