The issuer has made the following amendment to the 'Witan Investment Company
Plc, Purchase of Own Securities' announcement released 24 March 2000 at 7:01am
under RNS No 8283H.

In the first paragraph, the second 'market purchase' should read 350,000 and not
300,000 as previously shown. The total number of shares following this purchase
and cancellation should read 366,258,094 and not 366,308,094 as previously
shown. 

All other details remain unchanged.

Notification  is  given  that  pursuant  to  the  authority
granted at the Annual General Meeting held on 16 March 1999
to  make  market purchases of the Company's own  shares  of
25p,  market  purchases  of 250,000  and  350,000  ordinary
shares of 25p each in the capital of the Company were  made
yesterday  at  a  price  of 478.0p  and  476.0p  per  share
respectively.

Following this purchase and cancellation there will be
366,258,094 shares in issue.
