Directors' Notification of Dealing in Shares

In connection with the Executive Share Option Schemes of Whitbread PLC ('the
company'), Mourant & Co Trustees Limited ('the Trustees'), the Trustees of the
Whitbread PLC Employee Share Ownership Plan Trust (the 'ESOT') purchased 299,135
ordinary shares in the company at a price of 550p on 9 June 2000.  The number of
shares held by the ESOT accordingly increased to 694,674 ordinary shares.

The executive directors of the company, namely Mr. D M Thomas, Mr S Miller, Mr A
S Perelman, Mr A C Parker, Mr D H Richardson and Mr W M F C Shannon are included
among the potential beneficiaries of the ESOT and accordingly are deemed to be
interested in all the ordinary shares it holds.

The company was notified of the transactions on 13 June 2000.
