In connection with the Long Term Incentive Plan ('the plan') of Whitbread PLC,
on 1 March, 2001 a participant in the Plan exercised an award over 2,868 shares
for the performance period ending 28 February, 1999.  The share price on date of
exercise was 642p.  Accordingly, the executive directors technical interest in
the shares held in the ESOT is reduced to 686,679.
