                         Redemption of Debenture Stock


Whitbread announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Whitbread Group PLC,
yesterday held separate meetings of holders of its £200,484,515 11.625%
Debenture Stock due 2011 and its £100,000,000 8.125% Debenture Stock due 2021.
At the meetings, extraordinary resolutions approving the early redemption of
such debenture stocks and the price payable on such early redemption were
passed.

The redemption will occur on 6 September and will be financed out of existing
cash resources.
