                       Whitbread Analyst and Investor Day

At their Investor Day today Whitbread will outline Costa's plans to double its
previous target of 1000 stores by 2010. The company now expects to grow from
around 650 stores today to a total of 2000 stores in the next five years. The
new stores will be opened both in the UK and international markets.

The Investor Day will comprise presentations on each of the four Whitbread
businesses. The presentations will be audio-webcast from 1445 at http://
www.whitbread.co.uk/investors/.

Whitbread will not be giving any update on current trading today or providing
any price sensitive information that is not currently in the public domain.
