Marriott is now achieving healthy growth although in this quarter it has benefited from comparison with the depressed London market of a year ago. 'In contrast the restaurant brands' performance was set against a strong period last year and was affected adversely by the temporary closure of pub restaurants for conversion to the successful new format. 'The excellent sales results achieved by Travel Inn reflect the brand's increasing consumer appeal while David Lloyd Leisure's like-for-like sales growth of 5% confirmed its leadership of its sector. 'Whitbread's board remains confident of further good progress in the current financial year and beyond, in terms of organic growth, of the group's market leading leisure brands, operating performance and more efficient use of shareholders' property assets' -ends- Contact: David Reed 020 7806 5436 Julie Weldon 020 7806 5443 David Richardson and David Reed will be available for a conference call at 09.30am today, 15th June, 2004.
