J D Wetherspoon plc has received notification on 3 August 2000
from CGNU plc that following the merger of CGU plc and Norwich
Union plc, the notifiable interest held by CGNU plc and its
subsidiaries is 11,142,571 ordinary shares representing 5.3%
of J D Wetherspoons's issued ordinary share capital.
