                                  Board Change

JD Wetherspoon plc announces that Anthony Lowrie, a non-executive director, has
decided to retire from the Board with immediate effect prior to going into
hospital for a lengthy back operation.

The Board acknowledges the very substantial contribution made by Mr. Lowrie
during his 18 years as a director of JD Wetherspoon and personally I would like
to thank Tony for all his support and guidance over that long period.

The Board is currently seeking a replacement non-executive director appointment
regarding which a further announcement will be made in due course.
