Mr John Hutson, Chief Executive Officer of JD Wetherspoon plc, today exercised
15,000 options to subscribe to ordinary 2p shares at 92.4p per share and
immediately sold 5,232 of the company's ordinary shares at a price of 266p per
share on 15 April 2005.

Mr Hutson also transferred 4,500 ordinary shares to his wife Mrs N Hutson who
immediately sold 4,500 shares at 266p per shares on this date.

Mr Hutson is retaining 5,268 shares from exercise, taking his interest in the
company to 84,693 ordinary shares.

In addition Mrs Suzanne Baker, a board director, exercised 25,000 options to
subscribe to ordinary 2p shares at 92.4p per share and immediately sold 25,000
of the company's ordinary shares at a price of 266p per share on 15 April 2005,
keeping her interest in the company at 177.
