Mr John Hutson, Chief Executive Officer, of JD Wetherspoon plc, today exercised

64,000 options to subscribe to ordinary 2p shares, the exercise consisted of the
following options 50,000 at 127.2p and 14,000 options at 167p.  Mr Hutson
immediately sold 64,000 of the company's ordinary shares at a price of 292.5p
per share on 26th September 2005.
