                 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE WEIR GROUP PLC

                          ON THURSDAY 17th MAY 2001

The Weir Group PLC announces that at the Annual General Meeting of the Company
held yesterday all of the resolutions set out in the notice of the Meeting
were duly passed and that J H Macdonald and J A Urquhart duly retired as
Directors of The Weir Group PLC on 17 May 2001 following the Company's Annual
General Meeting, having intimated their intention not to stand for re-election
at the said meeting.
