APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mr Christopher Clarke has been appointed today a non-executive director of The
Weir Group PLC.

Mr Clarke was formerly a director of Samuel Montagu & Co. Limited and of HSBC
Investment Banking.  His 25 years as an investment banker encompassed a wide
range of clients and industries both in the UK and internationally.  He
commenced his career in the international oil industry with Shell
International.  He is a graduate of Cambridge University and of the London
Business School.
