Invitation to Press Conference - Publishing of ...
PUBLISHING OF THE SHIPPING SCENARIOS 2030
Is this the future of shipping?
"September 14, 2027
The first convoy of ships carrying water sails from Russia to India, protected
by Navy escorts."
"May 21, 2028
A Chinese containership - one of many - is crossing the Indian Ocean on its way
from Dar es Salaam to Shanghai, loaded with manufactured goods."
"July 2, 2027
The world's first floating desalination unit, powered entirely with renewable
energy, is launched to serve the city of Mumbai."
Shipping will certainly continue to be part of the transportation matrix. How
future shipping will actually look like, will depend on big uncertainties
including geopolitics, macroeconomics, climate change, social values and
technology. The past few years alone have brought about fundamental change. The
effect on companies, governments and people's everyday life will be significant.
Scenarios are a method of making sense of a complex environment. Wärtsilä has
pioneered in the creation of the Shipping Scenarios 2030. We will share the
scenarios with you at a press conference at SMM in Hamburg:
Time: Wednesday, 8 September at 11:00-12:00
Place: Hall 4, Conference Room Osaka 1, SMM International Trade Fair in Hamburg
After the press conference, Wärtsilä representatives will be available for
interviews. Light lunch will be served.
This is the very first public opportunity to see and hear about three
alternative futures: Rough Seas, Yellow River and Open Oceans.
Welcome!
Mr Jaakko Eskola
Group Vice President
Wärtsilä Ship Power
