                      W.H. IRELAND GROUP PLC ('THE GROUP')

                                 Board Changes

The board of W. H. Ireland Group plc is pleased to announce that Richard Lee,
currently a non-executive director of W. H. Ireland Group, has become an
executive director of the Group. In addition, he has been appointed managing
director of the Group's stockbroking subsidiary, W.H.Ireland Limited ('WHI').

David Youngman who is managing director of the Group, has been appointed deputy
chief executive of WHI. Laurie Beevers remains chief executive of both the Group
and WHI.
