                         Proposed sale of Infostrada


On 25 January 2001, the Italian anti-trust authority commenced an
investigation into the sale of Infostrada to Enel by Mannesmann AG, a
subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc ('Vodafone').  Unless extended, this
investigation will terminate on 11 March 2001.  The sale agreement will
terminate on 28 February 2001 unless the parties agree otherwise.  Vodafone
confirms that it and Enel are presently committed to completing the sale of
Infostrada.  However, the remedies that may be required by the Italian
regulatory authority may be such that the transaction will not complete.



A further announcement will be made in due course.
