      VODAFONE AIRTOUCH ANNOUNCES BOARD APPOINTMENT


Vodafone  AirTouch  Plc ('Vodafone  AirTouch')  announces
that  Thomas  Geitner has been appointed as an  Executive
Director with effect from 15 May 2000. Mr Geitner will be
responsible for the development and introduction  of  pan
European  products  and services and the  achievement  of
revenue   and   cost  synergies  between  the   operating
companies   within  the  European  Region   of   Vodafone
AirTouch.

Thomas  Geitner has a Masters Degree in Engineering  from
the  Technical  University in  Munich  and  an  MBA  from
INSEAD.  Until  recently he has been a  Management  Board
member    of    RWE    AG    with   responsibility    for
telecommunications and CEO of OtelO Gmbh, which  operates
fixed services and E-Plus mobile telecommunications.

Chris   Gent,  Chief  Executive  of  Vodafone   AirTouch,

Plus  and OtelO I know that he will be a tremendous asset
to   the  Board  of  Vodafone  AirTouch.  Following   the
completion  of  our  acquisition  of  Mannesmann  we  are
focusing our attention on the early implementation of new

contribution in these areas as well as becoming a  valued
