UK guidance and publications in Italy point to effectiveness of chlorine dioxide wipes
Tristel plc, the manufacturer of infection control, contamination control and hygiene products, announces its chlorine dioxide-based wipes have been confirmed as an effective decontamination product by two healthcare authorities.
New guidance issued by The British Association of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons, (ENT UK), on the decontamination and sterilization of the endoscopes used in hospital Ear, Nose and Throat departments confirms the effectiveness of chlorine dioxide wipes for treating both rigid and flexible instruments [1].
In addition, a recent review in the Official Journal of the Italian Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery cites Tristel's chlorine dioxide-based wipes as a factor in the notable reduction in disinfection times for heat-sensitive endoscopes [2]. The review also cites a study conducted at an ENT Outpatient facility in an Italian hospital which demonstrated the superiority of the Wipes System in lowering the microbial load on instruments, particularly with regard to biofilm-producing micro organisms.
The Tristel Wipes System is unique. It uses the Company's patented chlorine dioxide chemistry and is designed specifically for the decontamination of heat-sensitive, non-lumened instruments. The system comprises a pre-clean wipe to remove surface soiling, a sporicidal wipe that kills harmful organisms within 30 seconds, and a rinse wipe. It also includes an easy-to-use, full traceability programme enabling users to establish a complete audit trail for every item used.
Tristel CEO Paul Swinney said: "Tristel Wipes are established in many countries and it is very encouraging that chlorine dioxide wipes are increasingly seen as a highly effective, cost-efficient option for decontaminating instruments used in ENT. We are in the process of registering the Wipes System in Australia, China and Hong Kong and expect soon to receive clearance for their use in the German public hospital sector."
